Siezed by Grace

Between the dusty road and the awful roman tree

A man was being crushed to death, so I stopped to see

I knew the man was innocent, I saw it in his eyes

But the crowd drunk with anger, discharged their foolish cries

I had seen enough, what foolishness this sight

And turned my back; Time efface this memory blight!

But as I sifted back into the swirling, rebel mass

A solider saw my Cyrean build, and would not let me pass

The man beneath the cross had fallen to his knees

Exhausted and defeated, no affect the soldier's pleas

A brawny solider seized my arm and without a choice, was I

dragged beneath the bloody cross, and made to hold it high

Beside the suffering Innocent I bore his cross until

We reached the spot where all history he would fulfill

I did not leave the scene this time; not when I saw his death

Like the thief who cried “remember!” I received glory's breath

Now I see my story of the cross I bore than day

Shows but a deeper picture, that now I can obey

For the message of a bloody cross was foolishness to me

I stood in crowds of mockers, tis but folly that we see

Then like that Roman solider I was seized by arms of grace

And dragged beneath the rough-hewn cross His mercy there to taste

New life is born inside of me, new strength to bear that tree

To share his pain, to spill my blood, to struggle Calvary

Oh grace of God! I count this cross my glory and my prize

For there your Son bought the right to open me the skies

Seized forever in arms of grace: rescued from my sin

To walk with joy, the Calvary life, to suffer, die and then

To reign, rejoice forever, all eternity with Him

Grace does not ask for volunteers; it does not peddle heaven

God will not give his place to men, nor mingle works as leaven
